Simsbury Travel Basketball Club 2020-2021

Due to the conditions caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic the Simsbury Travel Basketball Club (STBC) will not have teams this season. There is currently no gym time available to us in the public facilities in town, which is essential to our ability to have teams. Similarly, gym time is not available to us in the private facilities in town that we typically use. The leagues we play in are not going to have seasons as they did in the past and we have no idea if or when gym time locally will be available. This makes it impossible for STBC to have teams this season as we have had in the past.

Some coaches are running teams outside of STBC. If you registered for tryouts, your contact information has been passed on to them. These teams are under the control of the coaches and are not part of STBC.

There are several other options for players to play basketball this season. The CT Northstars are having a league at their facility in Canton CT. You can see details and sign up on their web site: http://ctnorthstars.com/. They are taking full teams and individual sign-ups.

Wins4Life does not have their winter league information available yet, but they will be running a winter basketball league at the bubble in Tolland. Their web site is: http://www.wins4life.com/

There will likely also be a league in Newington at the new Mortensen Community Center and there may be other opportunities available. As we become aware of additional opportunities, they will be posted on our web site.

This was a difficult decision for the board to make which we did not make lightly. We felt it was important to come to a decision in time for teams and individuals to pursue other options.

Thank you,

Club Information

Introduction

The Simsbury Travel Basketball Club provides an organized youth basketball program for Simsbury residents in grades 4 through 8. Teams compete against teams from towns in the Hartford, CT area with most games scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. Registration for tryouts begins in September. Tryouts are in October. Practices begin in November. Games begin in December and continue into late February/early March. (all dates are approximate)

Philosophy

  • Teach players the basic skills of basketball
  • Build confidence in each player and to bring out their individual talent for the game
  • Teach sportsmanship and fair play through a team sport
  • Provide an opportunity for each player to participate and have fun
  • Enforce team concepts and to enhance knowledge of the sport
  • Teach players the responsibility of each team member to try their best and to encourage their teammates to do the same
  • Prepare players for a higher level of competition and commitment to continue to play the sport at the next level.

  • Minimum playing time guarantees

Schedule:

Check the Weekly Schedule menu item on the left for weekly games and practice times.  During the season, teams typically practice twice a week on weeknights for 90 minutes.  Games are usually on weekends.  Our teams play in the CBTBL, CGBL and NCC leagues. Click the LEAGUES tab on the left column for league websites.

Tryouts:

More information about Simsbury Travel Basketball  Expectations and Tryouts can be found in the Parents tab. Online Registration for tryouts opens up in August, tryouts take place in October.  There is no fee to try out.

Coaches:

All STBC Coaches must pass a background check, take the CDC Concussion training course and review the CDC information on staph infections for athletes.

Cost:

The cost to participate on a team for the upcoming season has not been determined yet. Last year it was $325 per player, we expect the cost will be similar this season. Costs include gym rental & custodial fees, game officials, league fees, website fees and team equipment.  The fee does not include the cost of a uniform - approximately $75. Individual teams may choose to participate in activities that could require additional costs.
